Five years after pulling the plug on Heroes in 2010 NBC will bring the sci-fi drama back to the small screen for a 13 episode miniseries.
Series creator Tim Kring will be running the show, but it is not yet known which, if any, cast members will be returning. In the network's official statement NBC Entertainment President, Jennifer Salke, said "the show will be appropriately shrouded in secrecy, but we won’t rule out the possibility of some of the show’s original cast members popping back in."
The announcement was made via a 15-second teaser during NBC's coverage of the Sochi Winter Olympics on Saturday. The teaser features little more than the original series' iconic eclipse logo along with the subtitle "Reborn."
Heroes: Reborn will be preceded by a series of web videos to introduce new characters. It's not surprising considering Kring credits the original series for his interest in combining mediums. In 2010 he told Entertainment Weekly, "Heroes really taught me that much of the excitement of it was creating this three-dimensional platform around a show."
Heroes is not alone in getting a second life. E! and Indie Wire both compared Reborn to Fox's 24: Live Another Day event that will see Kiefer Sutherland return to the role of Jack Bauer this May.
