The New York Giants announced that they and their head coach, Tom Coughlin, have agreed to a one-year contract extension Friday at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.
Coughlin was entering the final year of his contract in 2014 and this deal keeps him with the Giants through the 2015 season, according to ESPN.
CBS Sports reports that the one year extension is worth $7 million.
This deal should not come as a shock to anyone as Coughlin has had great success in his tenure coaching the Giants. Most notably appearing in and winning two Super Bowls.
This deal comes after a disappointing season for Coughlin. The Giants did not have the success they are used to having in the 2013 season. The team started off extremely slow, losing their first six games. They finished the season strong, going 7-3 in the last 10 weeks of the season finishing their season with an overall record of 7-9, missing the playoffs. But the 2013 season is not a good representation of the very successful career Coughlin has had as the head coach of the Giants.
Coughlin truly deserved to be rewarded this contract extension because of all of the success he has brought to the New York Giants franchise.
