As any fan of the DC Comics character The Flash knows, the upcoming pilot The CW is putting together is not the first time the speedster has been on television. For one season in the early 1990s, John Wesley Shipp was Barry Allen and in a nod to that unsuccessful series, Warner Bros. TV is bringing him back for a new role in The CW pilot.
Shipp has been cast in a “mystery role” in the pilot, reports Entertainment Weekly. He will be given a recurring spot if the show gets picked up to series.
The actor played The Flash in CBS’ one-season 1990 series. He also starred in Dawson’s Creek, One Life To Live and Teen Wolf.
Last week, several more actors joined Flash, including Candice Patton (Rizzoli & Isles) and Broadway actor Carlos Valdes. The rest of the cast includes Jesse L. Martin, Rick Cosnett, Danielle Panabaker and Tom Cavanagh.
Grant Gustin is playing Barry Allen this time and will make appearances in The CW’s current DC Comics hit, Arrow. The pilot is being developed by Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg and David Nutter.
