San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers was rewarded for his bounce back 2013 season when he won the NFL Comeback Player of the Year award. Denver Broncos running back Knowshon Moreno finished as the runner-up with eight votes along with Philadelphia Eagles left tackle Jason Peters.
After underwhelming seasons in 2011 and 2012, Rivers returned to Pro Bowl form, just as then offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt predicted, according to NFL.
Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator Norv Turner was fired as the Chargers' head coach after the 2012 season and was replaced by Mike McCoy, who helped Rivers look like his old self.
Rivers threw 32 touchdown passes with only 11 interceptions for the Chargers, and he completed approximately 70 percent of his passes, according to NBCSports.
Rivers caught fire at the end of the regular season when the Chargers won four consecutive games to clinch the sixth seed in the AFC, leading the Chargers to the playoffs for the first time since the 2009 season. He threw nine touchdown passes with only two interceptions in this stretch.
Rivers also led the Chargers to their first playoff win since 2008 before they were eliminated by the AFC champion Broncos.
