Academy award winning actor, Philip Seymour Hoffman, was found dead in his West Village apartment due to a drug overdose, according to law enforcement sources.

Hoffman, 46, was found by a personal assistant on Sunday morning, who called 911 at around 11:30 a.m. He was found in his bathroom of his apartment with a needle still in his arm, reports Nypost.com.

According to Nytimes.com, the cause of death is still unknown, but it seems to have been due to a drug overdose. Cops and law officials are at the scene investigating.

Hoffman is best known for his role in the 2005 film, Capote, in which he won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his role as Truman Capote.

He has spoken out before about his substance abuse in 2006, in which he later went to rehab for and became sober.

Hoffman was seen just last month at the Sundance Film Festival, appearing a bit disheveled, for his movie “God’s Pocket”.
