Actor Phillip Seymour Hoffman was found dead in his Manhattan apartment Sunday morning. Though police are still investigating the exact cause of death, a drug overdose is to be suspected.
The New York Post is reporting that he was found by a personal assistant around 11:30 a.m. and 911 was promptly called. Sources claim he was found in his bathroom with a hypodermic needle.
Hoffman admitted to prior issues with drugs and alcohol during a 2006 interview with 60 Minutes. "It was all that [drugs and alcohol], yeah, it was anything I could get my hands on...I liked it all," he shared. However, the actor managed to check himself into rehab post graduation from NYU's prestigious TISCH school. He stayed sober for 23 years until a brief relapse that brought the actor back to rehab for ten days last year before voluntarily checking himself out.
The 46 year old actor won an Oscar for his work in the 2005 film Capote and was currently playing the role of game maker and rebellion leader Plutarch Heavensbee in The Hunger Games series. No word yet on how filming will continue with the death of Hoffman.
