Severe weather delays Daytona 500 race.
USA Today reports that the Daytona 500 race has been delayed due to severe weather.
The race did in fact start on time, however, it had to shut down after lap 38.
The National Weather Service released tornado and severe thunderstorm warnings. Meteorologist Brian Neudorff claimed that there was a possibility that the race could continue after the storm passes.

The Associated Press reports that the Daytona 500 have been plagued with delays for the past five years.
In 2009, the race ended early due to rain. In 2010, a pothole on the track delayed the race for over two hours. In 2012, rain rescheduled the game to Monday, where driver Juan Pablo Montoya collided with a jet dryer that caused a fire on the track. It led to another two hour delay, where workers used detergent to clean the track.
As of right now, the track is being dried in hopes to continue the race tonight.

If the race does not go on as planned tonight, then they will have to rely on a Monday race, their plan-B.
