This week’s episode of Real Housewives of Atlanta focused on the fallout from NeNe’s behavior last week and the continued drama that it brings.
We start off at NeNe and Gregg’s house. NeNe is explaining that she feels bad for the whole event. She talks about how she didn’t want to go in the first place and how she let herself be bullied into going when she knew better. When she got to the ball, her alter-ego, Nay Nay, who is full of attitude came out. She says that she needs to learn to leave Nay Nay in the car. She ends the conversation stating that even though Nay Nay came out, Cynthia’s husband Peter was still out of line calling her on her bull. He should have left it up to the ladies to solve.
On cue, the scene moves to Cynthia’s house where Cynthia and her sister Mallory are rehashing the events from the charity ball. Cynthia feels responsible because NeNe didn’t want to go to the ball and she pretty much forced her to go. Surprisingly, Cynthia sides with NeNe, believing that her husband should have stayed out of the conflict. She tells her sister that that opinion has caused a major fight between her husband and herself. However, Cynthia doesn’t want this fight to get any deeper, so she decides to continue planning a surprise birthday party for Peter to smooth things over with him.
We’re moved to one more scene of charity ball talk when Kenya meets up with her new bestie Marlo to divulge her point of view of what happened. It starts off with both ladies complimenting each other on their looks and their outfits. They are really pouring on the charm. But soon it turns to a bitch session as Kenya is still furious NeNe disrupted her event when she was trying to honor her. She stands to demonstrate the way NeNe’s face twisted and turned while she was reacting to her honor. In the end though, Kenya decides she wants to make peace with NeNe. Marlo suggests that Cynthia’s upcoming party for Peter is the perfect place because everyone will be there in festive moods and Marlo can help with the mediation.
Welcome to the night of Peter’s party. The action starts with Peter calling Cynthia to tell her that he’s tired and won’t be able to make it to her “dinner” that night. Cynthia begs and pleads for him to take a nap and then show up. She can’t tell him that it’s a surprise party, but you can tell she’s on the verge. He finally agrees and preparations go back into motion.
Guests arrive and before you know it, Peter is on his way up to the party. However, he’s not surprised because he sees Kandi in the lobby and figures it all out. Everyone is happy anyway and they are chatting, drinking, eating, and dancing.
Peter and Cynthia even make up on the dance floor. The drama resurfaces when NeNe walks in with clear attitude written all over her face. She coldly says happy birthday to Peter when he tries to welcome her. Then she announces that she’s going to leave. All of the girls are shocked because she just arrived 5 minutes ago. At this time Kenya and Marlo run over to have a conversation with her to work things out. NeNe has none of that, so Kenya drags her away to have a private conversation. NeNe puts Kenya in her place by saying that if she is going to honor someone she needs to let them know and extend a phone call. Kenya states that she won’t take blame for everything that happened that night, but she is sorry for her part. NeNe accepts the apology, but makes it clear in her talking head that she will not forget it.
Afterwards, NeNe takes a seat at the table with Marlo and Kenya. She watches them fawn all over each other and she gets disgusted. She politely excuses herself and leaves.
The next day there’s some lightness in the air when NeNe heads to Portia’s house to help her run lines for her roll in Kandi’s play. They talk about the roll and how to draw emotion out of yourself while acting. Eventually the conversation flows to Kenya and Marlo’s newfound friendship. NeNe isn’t a fan of it, but doesn’t want to dwell on it any longer.
Moving to Kenya, she invites Miss Lawrence over for a little conversation. They chat about Kenya’s plans for a trip to Mexico with everyone in the group. She wants to bond and reconnect. Miss Lawrence is skeptical about it working so Kenya calls Cynthia. Cynthia is all on board so Kenya takes this to mean it’s a great idea. She then decides to ask Miss Lawrence to be her date and “bodyguard” for the trip.
The last event of the episode is the Bailey Bowl. Cynthia is putting on this athletic event to celebrate fitness and to get everyone in the group out without any fighting. All of the Housewives have put together teams for the competition. Unfortunately the drama begins when NeNe asks every one of her bridesmaids to be on her team, except Marlo, who surprise surprise ends up on Kenya’s Team Twirl. The events begin and it’s chaos from the beginning. Some people are cheating, the referees don’t catch anything, and others are upset. The games continue outside on the baseball field. While they walk to the field, Marlo tries to make a comment to NeNe about not being asked to join her team. To NeNe’s credit, she walks away and ignores the comment. In the next event, there is even more chaos and confusion. Again people are accused of cheating and breaking the rules and others are getting frustrated. Marlo again tries to approach NeNe by congratulating her on her team’s win in the last event. NeNe walks away. This time Marlo is pissed off. Kenya hears this and tries to reunite the two friends. NeNe tries to get away and ends up tossing a water bottle at them. Marlo continues to follow NeNe, spouting off about how NeNe can’t accept her being friends with Kenya and how she gave NeNe style, and how everyone wants to be around her. NeNe keeps walking away not saying a word. Kenya is trying to get Marlo to stop. Kandi likens it to a little dog chasing NeNe. Finally NeNe leaves the park but Marlo keeps picking her apart to Kenya and anyone else who’ll listen.
The episode ends with NeNe driving away and Marlo collapsing into Kenya’s arms crying. Cynthia wonders how they will ever get along in Mexico.
