Rolling Stone magazine is defending their decision to replace Drake’s cover for the late Philip Seymour Hoffman, saying they gave the “Started From the Bottom” rapper notice before switching.
Drake took to Twitter on Thursday to express his anger that the magazine didn’t run his cover, which he has since deleted.
“I'm disgusted with that. RIP to Phillip Seymour Hoffman. All respect due. But the press is evil,” he wrote.
Sources are now telling TMZ he did the interview only because he was guaranteed a cover, with insiders saying he felt “tricked" about the last-minute switch.
Both the interview and photoshoot were completed before Hoffman’s untimely death on Feb. 2. and sources close to the publication say this happens all the time when there's an unexpected death. A rep for Rolling Stone said they notified Drake last Friday that they would be replacing his cover with Hoffman’s photo.
Drake has since vowed not to give any more interviews, tweeting this morning “I'm done doing interviews for magazines. I just want to give my music to the people. That's the only way my message gets across accurately.”
