Salma Hayek’s brother, Sami Hayek, got into a car accident that caused his passenger, art director Ian Cuttler Sala, to die.
Hayek, 40, was driving his two-seater Ford GT with Sala in the passenger seat on Sunday when they got into a fatal crash in Los Angeles.
According to Daily News, the Los Angeles Police Department said Hayek lost control of his car while driving eastbound and hit another vehicle driving westbound in Holmby Hills, Ca.
Both Hayek and the driver of the other vehicle were not severely injured but Sala, a Grammy winner, died at the scene of the accident due to major blunt force trauma. Hayek has broken ribs and a cut on his head and 20-year-old Alvin Javier Gomez reportedly broke his foot.
CBS Los Angeles reports speed might have been a factor in the crash and the case is being turned over to the the District Attorney’s Office to further investigate.
Sala designed a music box set for Johnny Cash: The Legend, which earned him a Grammy award.
