Photographer Terry Richardson has worked with a variety of celebrities and models, from Miley Cyrus, Beyonce’ and the Kardashian sisters.
Most recently, Richardson has worked with Glee star Lea Michele. However, that’s not enough to make some models like his work.
According to HuffPost Live there are still some models that speak out again his work and claim they, “wouldn’t work with him again.”
HuffPost Live was referring to model Alise Shoemaker from Model Alliance.Model Alliance is a nonprofit organization that isn’t afraid to discuss the dark side of modeling and push for the models’ rights. This dark side includes sexual harassment, lack of compensations and Richardson.
“I think almost every model has had an encounter with him, whether it be good or bad. I would say the majority are complaints,” Shoemarker explained according to the Huffington Post. She discussed that many times models find themselves in a position to do “compromising” work.
Sara Ziff, the founder of Model Alliance, also further explained that “[Richardson] will ask you to take your clothes off at the casting, and in some cases, give him sexual favors.”
She discussed how it is an example of “people who abuse their power” in the industry. There are many models that would feel like they weren’t up to par with others if they rejected to show more skin. They are usually afraid that it may damage their careers.
Model Alliance works to ensure models know their rights and has last year made an effort to include children’s modeling under child performers under the Department of Labor. That would require children to take breaks every four hours and have work permits.
According to the Huffington Post, they made an attempt to receive a response from Richardson, however they did not hear back.
