Although Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson did a standup job at the Super Bowl, linebacker Malcolm Smith deserves the MVP, for his stellar performance in their 43-8 win against the Denver Broncos.
“It’s unbelievable,” Smith told USA Today.
“I’m in shock. We expected a great fight from them. We kind of just dominated the game.”
Smith was able to make nine tackles, five by himself and two passes defended, SB Nation reported. He also recovered Demaryius Thomas' fumble, which led to another touchdown.
According to Jon Zimmer, historically, Smith is the third linebacker to win the Super Bowl MVP award, alongside Ray Lewis and Chuck Howley.
Smith described the players he leads, as a group of ragtags and misfits, and said the Super Bowl win really showed a lot about their hidden talents and their crucial values in the team.
"To be in the Super Bowl and dominate the game says a lot about our group," he told USA Today. "We kind of have a chip on our shoulder, a lot of guys got overlooked, a bunch of misfits, a bunch of guys who it was said wouldn't be anything.''
Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll was proud of the mark the team left with the win, and believed the game well.
"I'm proud that that is the way we put our stamp on this world championship," he told USA Today. "Mostly, we played football the way we like to play. We got pressure up front and guys got great plays on the ball.''
