Justin Smoak and the Seattle Mariners avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year contract worth approximately $2.8 million. This could add up to about $8.3 million over two years.

According to ESPN, Smoak also has a 2015 club option worth $3.65 million. Signing Smoak takes care of every arbitration-eligible player on the Mariners.

If Smoak makes at least 525 plate appearances this season, the club option will vest, according to NBC Sports.

There are also other incentives in Smoak's contract that will guarantee him the option. In addition to 525 plate appearances, finishing in the top 15 in MVP voting, making the All-Star team and winning a Silver Slugger award would guarantee him the option.

Smoak hit a career-high 20 home runs last season with 50 runs batted in and a .238 batting average while making a trip to the disabled list in June. He raised his average to .274 in early August before a slump ended his season.

He also finished fifth in the American League among first basemen in fielding percentage with .995.
