Cowell welcomed his first child, a son named Eric, Friday in New York.
The 'X Factor' judge and Silverman named the baby after Cowell's father. The baby weighed in at six pounds and seven ounces, according to CNN. The birth was announced via Cowell's Twitter, through a series of tweets.
"Very happy to say Eric was born at 17.45pm. Healthy and handsome," he said in his first tweet. He then went on to say: "Lauren in great shape. Thanks for all of your kind messages."
In his last Tweet, he confirmed that the baby boy was "named after my dad."
The pregnancy created a stir of drama, when it was confirmed in July, while Silverman was still married to real estate mogul Andrew Silverman, who was a close friend of Cowell. The pair have since divorced, and Cowell and Silverman continue their relationship, according to ABC News.
While this is the first child for Cowell, it is the second for Silverman, who has a seven year old son.
