T.J. Oshie lead Team USA to a victory over Russia in hockey by winning in a shootout.
He was partially selected because of how good he is when it comes to shootouts, and that was certainly needed, giving Team USA the win, 3-2, reports USA Today. Oshie was able to shoot several times because of international rules.
While in overtime, Team USA had their chances, especially during a breakaway lead by Patrick Kane. But Russian goalie Sergei Bobrovsky was able to save it then, stopping the puck with 2:41 remaining.
According to The Washington Post, the game almost didn't make it to OT as the Russians scored with a little less than five minutes remaining in the third period. However, the goal was disallowed as the net was displaced. Another rule difference in international play that kept the Americans alive.
The game went into OT, tied at 2-2. Team captain for Russia, Pavel Datsyuk, was the only one to score for his team. Cam Fowler pulled off a rebound play in the early minutes of the third period, to give Team USA its first point.
The second point was scored by Joe Pavelski on a power play several minutes later after Datsyuk tied the game.
The intense game featured plenty of physical play, as this Russian team was more willing to go toe-to-toe against Team USA, where in years past they would have backed off.
