Ted Ligety made history to become the first American man to win two Olympic gold metals in Alpine skiing. Ligety won the gold in the giant slalom on Wednesday at the Sochi Games.

Ligety lead after the first run and finished with a combined time of two minutes and 45.29 seconds reported the USA Today.

Silver medalist Frenchman, Steve Missillier finished just behind by 0.48 seconds while his teammate, Alexis Pinturault won the gold 0.64 seconds behind the gold.

Ligety previously won the gold at in 2006 at the Turin Games at the in combined at just 21-years-old according to Associated Press.

Ligety is one of two Americans to have won two Olympic gold’s in Alpine skiing. Previously, Andrew Mead Lawrence won the gold in both the women’s slalom and giant slalom in the 1952 Oslo Games. In addition to his Olympic gold medals, Ligety has won nine of 14 giant slalom races during this season and last season. He has also won the World Cup title in the giant slalom four out of the past six times and took the gold in the giant slalom in the past two world championships.
