FX's The Americans's second season premiered on Wednesday and while the show returned, not all the fans did, and certainly no new ones, as the show suffered from a soft return.
The premiere didn't do as well as the series premiere last year, but did manage to pull in similar ratings to the first season's overall average ratings, reports TheWrap.
The Kerri Russell and Matthew Rhys drama returned to 1.9 million viewers. That is a 41 percent drop from the show's debut. The advertiser important 18-49 demographic numbers weren't any better, down to 863,000 viewers. Both numbers could rise, however, when the DVR numbers are later released.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Americans averaged 1.85 million viewers and 882,000 in the key demo, putting the second season right at the top.
The show originally premiered to 3.22 million viewers, but never came close to that number again in the following episodes, but the show does get a nice boost when DVR numbers are included.
