AMC's zombie drama, The Walking Dead mid-season finale broke records and the return to the airwaves had more viewers than the Winter Olympics.
The Walking Dead midseason premiere had 15.8 million viewers this past Sunday, Entertainment Weekly reported.
This resulted in an 8.2 rating amongst adults 18 to 49. The Winter Olympics which are currently airing on NBC only had a rating of 6.9 in the demo.
Deadline added that Walking Dead also took over social media and was the most talked about television show on Twitter during the premiere.
AMC saw a large increase from last year's season premiere, this was a 28 percent increase. Charlie Collier, AMC president spoke about the excitement that the network has for The Walking Dead. "With a number of high-profile choices on television last night, for The Walking Dead to deliver record ratings is remarkable. Thanks to the fans, who have been so supportive of this show in so many ways. We share your passion for this world. Chocolate pudding for all!" said Collier.
Talking Dead which is the after show for Walking Dead had 5.9 million viewers. This was the largest premiere for the after show.
