The Tonight Show posted the best weekly ratings for the past two decades in Jimmy Fallon's first week on the job and following the Sochi Olympics.
Though ratings get slipping for the Olympics, the Tonight Show still averaged 8.5 million viewers through each night, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The weekly average hasn't been that high since 1993 during the last week of Cheers.
In the advertiser-important 18-49 demographic, Fallon's late-night talk show averaged a 2.8 rating, which is the best average for the show in almost a decade. With DVR numbers included, the Tonight Show averaged a 4.9 in the demo, which is the best for the show since Jay Leno started his first tenure with the show.
As previously reported, the show saw growth in the demo, especially from Wednesday to Thursday where the demo rating rose to a 2.6 in the demo, up from a 2.3, which in itself was a record for Wednesday night viewing.
As the Olympics come to a close on Sunday, it remains to be seen how the late-night talk show will do without its lead-in and irregular airing time.
