The post-Super Bowl timeslot has become a popular spot to showcase shows, and Fox took advantage to show off its comedies New Girl and Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
Though the Super Bowl itself was a rout and over before it even began, many were stilling willing to stick out the whole show and tune in to what aired afterwards, reports the Los Angeles Times.
Zooey Deschanel's New Girl took the first slot after the game and the new episode, featuring Prince, averaged 25.8 million viewers. The show managed a strong 11.1 in the important 18-49 demographic.
Andy Samberg's Brooklyn Nine-Nine predictably lost some viewers in the second spot, but still managed 14.8 million viewers. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Golden Globe winning freshmen comedy managed a 6.7 rating in the demo.
Together the half-hour comedies were stronger than CBS' Elementary in the timeslot. The hour-long Sherlock Holmes procedural only pulled in 20.8 million and a 7.8 in the demo.
Other networks opted to quietly go about their night, airing only repeats against the Super Bowl and the two Fox comedies.
