William Pena, a 49 year old New York City bus driver, died around 5:30 a.m. on 14th street and Seventh Avenue after Tyson Beckford’s nephew, Domonic Whilby, 22, drove a stolen truck through a red light and hit the bus, making it careen into the sidewalk.

Beckford and Whilby were attending a birthday party for model, Shanina Shaik, which close to where the truck was stolen, and another two blocks from the crash site. Whilby reportedly stole the truck in the garage of the Maritime Hotel.

After the crash, Whilby was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he will be tested for alcohol and drugs, according to NY Daily News.

According to CBS, MTA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Thomas F. Prendergast said in a statement that,“The entire MTA mourns the tragic loss of Mr. Pena, especially his colleagues at the Michael J. Quill Bus Depot in Manhattan. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mr. Pena’s family, and we are working closely with law enforcement to ensure the perpetrator of this crime is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”

Pena is married and has a 14 year old daughter. Family and friends mourn the loss of their loved one.
