The U.S. hockey team has moved on to the semi-finals of the Sochi Games. After defeating the Czech Republic 5-2 Wednesday, the U.S. will play Canada on Friday to determine who will play for the gold.
American quickly took the lead after James van Reimsdyk scored the first goal. However Ales Hemsky of the Czech tied the score at 4:31 scoring against American, Jonathan Quick. Americans Dustin Brown, and David Backes scored two more goals during the first period giving the Americans a solid lead. Zach Parise made the score 4-1 in the second period and Phil Kessel scored the remaining goal for the U.S. in the third period reported CBS Sports. Hemsky scored the final goal of the game for the Czech Republic.
After Wednesday’s game, the U.S. team in the highest-scoring team in the tournament in the Sochi Games outscoring their opponents 20-6 according to USA Today. The American’s have previously played
Phil Kessel leads the team with eight points and five goals scored throughout the Games.
