U.S. takes silver and bronze medals in women’s bobsled

The U.S. has taken both the silver and bronze medals in the women’s bobsled competition.

USA Today noted that Canada’s Kaillie Humphries and Heather Moyse won their second gold medal by beating Americans Elana Meyers and Lauryn Williams, who took the silver. The U.S. duo of Jamie Greubel and Aja Evans earned the bronze medal.

The Associated Press points out that the Americans made a few marks in history with this event. For starters, it was the first time two U.S. women's bobsleds medaled at the Olympics. Second, Meyers became the first American woman to nab two bobsled medals. And Williams became only the fifth Olympian ever to medal in different events both at the Summer and Winter Games.

She previously won a sprint relay gold medal from London in 2012 and a silver from the 100 meters in Athens in 2004.

Williams told reporters that she was not in Sochi to make history, but rather to help Team USA with their mission.

She beamed with excitement and wrapped herself in the American Flag after the mission was accomplished.
