Ultimate Fighting Champion Thiago Silva has been accused of threatening to shoot his estranged wife.

According to the New York Daily News, Silva was in a Florida jail and Broward County records indicated that he was being held without bond following his arrest. He had originally been charged with attempted murder. However, his attorney, Scott Saul, told The Associated Press that the charge had been downgraded to aggravated assault with a firearm.

Authorities said that Silva showed up at the Pablo Popovitch Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy on Thursday night, caused a commotion and then threatened to shoot his wife and her new boyfriend. Silva and his wife have been separated for some time.

Officers caught up with him later at his home and had to subdue the 31-year-old before taking him into custody.

Witnesses thought Silva may have been under the influence of drugs or alcohol when he arrived at the academy. SB NATION notes that he has two failed drug tests on his mixed martial arts record.

The Brazilian-born fighter most recently competed in the light heavyweight division of the UFC. Following the arrest, he was released from his UFC contract.
