Steven Holcomb and Steven Langton claimed the two-man bobsledding bronze today, giving the United States its first medal in the event since 1952.

NBC Sports reports that the American pair found itself in third place going into the last runs of the final. In their final run, Holcomb and Langton edged out the sled from Canada by only .09 of a second. The American team took the bronze medal, behind Russia with the gold and Switzerland with the silver.

After the conclusion of the race, Holcomb expressed his relief for finally bringing a bobsled medal back to the USA. The last American pair to earn a medal in the event were Stanley Benham and Patrick Martin at the Games in Oslo.

“Man, thank God. There was a lot of pressure on me there,” said Holcomb.

According to The Washington Times, Russia’s gold medal was a landslide win. Alexander Zubkov and Alexey Voevoda finished their run a full .66 seconds faster that the team from Switzerland.
