After allowing only one goal against Slovakia in Thursday’s game, the Los Angeles Kings goaltender will get the start against Russia.
ESPN has reported that Jonathan Quick got the nod for his second straight start when Team USA faces the host country at the Bolshoy Ice Dome.
CBS Sports noted that Quick got the first start ahead of 2010 Olympics MVP Ryan Miller, but that did not secure the starting spot going forward.
However, U.S. coach Dan Bylsma was pleased with how the goalie played and announced that he would start again.
"Jonathan will be starting in net tomorrow," the coach said on Friday. "He played real well in Game 1. I thought there were periods of inactivity in that game and he had to stay sharp, stay focused, and it was followed by two or three big saves he had to make."
The 28-year-old Quick won a Stanley Cup with the Kings in 2012 and was named MVP. He also won a silver medal with the National Team four years ago in Vancouver.
Team USA will face Russia and Washington Capitals star Alex Ovechkin on Saturday.
