American hockey fans got a quite a treat Saturday morning when they witnessed Team USA defeat Team Russia in battle that was everything it was expected to be and so much more.
As the Bleacher Report noted, T.J. Oshie of the St. Louis Blues was the game’s hero, scoring four times on six tries in an eight-round shootout to lead Team USA to a 3-2 victory. Cam Fowler and Joe Pavelski scored the two goals in regulation.
The Associated Press reported that U.S. goaltender, Jonathan Quick of the Los Angeles Kings did his job in the net and made 29 saves and stopped five attempts in the shootout.
The thrilling game took 65 minutes to play in front of an energized crowd at the Bolshoy Ice Dome.
No doubt the U.S. hockey team will enjoy this one, but they have a quick turnaround and need to get ready for Sunday’s game against Slovenia.
And even though there was no medal at stake, that was hockey at its finest and fans of the game will savor this one for a while.
