It would be easy to overlook the St. Augustine Alligator farm as a small roadside attraction. However, it would be a huge mistake. It is actually a staple attraction in the area.
In the 7 acres park, you will see pretty much every kinds of alligators and crocodiles that exist. Don’t forget to ask when is the alligator feeding time. The show is worth the visit alone.
Don’t miss Maximo, the 15 foot 3 inch and 1,250 pound crocodile. The largest animal of the Alligator farm has its own space that he shares with his « girlfriend » equipped with an underwater viewing window. To see that huge beast swims is spectacular.
Also on display, a huge number of exotic birds and mammals. With huge vultures and marabous, the birds of Africa exhibit is a must see; Those avian scavengers are huge!
The Rookery is massive and attracts photographers from all over the place. The birds are not owned by the Alligator farm. They are free to come and go as they please but, for some reasons, they alway comes back. The Rookery blog will tell you what to expect at the time of you visit.
For the more adventurous, the Crocodile Crossing is a zip-line course that will take you OVER the crocs and alligators. With a total of 50 different obstacles to go through, the activity can take you up to 3 hours if you decide to take the longest course. Kids are welcomed on the zip line, but they must be over 57’’ tall and 10 years of age.
Combine the Crocodile crossing and the Alligator farm visit and you have a day long activity. Sweet!
