It is no secret that Marvel has plans to take over the movie industry with their ongoing cinematic universe. The Marvel/Disney collaboration has dominated the box office for the past few years with movies like Thor and the Iron Man franchise but Marvel Studios wasn’t going to slow down after a few successes. In 2012, Marvel released The Avengers and took over the global box office.

Now, Marvel is working on the next phase of their cinematic universe which includes pushing the envelope when it comes to the average moviegoer fan. Marvel has plans to release movies about not so famous comic book heroes, including Guardians of the Galaxy and Ant Man.

Not many moviegoers have even heard of these guardians who are guarding our galaxy and Ant Man is a very unique property that Marvel owns. This is the first big risk that the studio has been willing to take.

This is the time for Marvel to try push ahead with new properties and see what audiences are into. This is the time to take risks. Movie fans are used to see Tony Stark take out aliens from outer space, save the world and have breakfast with his fellow Avengers. This type of comic book universe seems normal to movie fans. Why not see if audiences could handle a walking, fighting tree and a raccoon that is a mastermind?

Not everything will be perfect for Marvel moving forward, this will be the first big marketing push that Marvel will be running, they have to educate audiences about these new characters and properties before they arrive on the big screen but if the first trailer for Guardians is any indication, Marvel is ready and fans already seemed excited for this more “out there” film. Most of the current Marvel films have been grounded in reality but Guardians takes movie fans out of their comfort zone and into not even a new world but a new galaxy.

In 2014, fans want more from Marvel and of course, Marvel is ready to continue the success of their cinematic universe. Years from now, comic book movies might be a trend of the past and something new will have taken it’s place but for now, fans all over the world are enjoying the time they can spend in other universes and can be found daydreaming about becoming an Avenger themselves.

Let’s let Marvel push the envelope as far as they want and see what we as the audience can handle, after all, today being a nerd is cool and Guardians of the Galaxy looks cool to say the least.
