The story of Noah and the ark is getting a revamp as it makes its way into theaters on Friday, March 28.
The story in which a man named Noah takes on God’s work by building an ark big enough to take two of each animal for their protection as the Earth is covered by water in an enormous flood.
Darren Aronofsky, who is known for directing the film Black Swan, takes on a star cast for the film including Russell Crowe, Jennifer Connelly, Anthony Hopkins, Emma Watson and more familiar faces.
During the New York premiere of Noah, Aronofsky discussed with ET why Crowe is the perfect actor to play Noah.
“When you make a film that’s got so many miracles in it, when you have the great deluge, and the animals two by two, you need someone who’s telling the truth,” Aronofsky said told ET. “And that’s the thing about Russell, he’s so grounded and dignified and real. He brought a reality to the film.”
The 21-year-old actor Douglas Booth who plays Noah’s son Shem also had his opinions on why Crowe was the ideal man for the role. He explained that Crowe has a particular characteristic about him that makes anything seem possible. That characteristic is strength.
“[Crowe] has a great gravity about him. He has a great strength, a power,” Booth said. “So he can bring that to [Noah]. You really believe that this is a guy that could accomplish this task.”
