Amazon.com is now streaming the highly popular BBC show Orphan Black for Prime Instant Video members. The show is being streamed as a result of a content-licensing deal with BBC America. The with BBC and Amazon results in season 1 being available for live streaming and Prime will also be able to show future seasons.
Variety reported that this deal comes only days before the new season of Blackwill air on BBC America. The new season debuts on April 19th.
This is not the first major show that Prime has inked a deal with to live steam. They recently inked a deal with NBCUniversal for Hannibal.
Brad Beale, director of digital video content acquisition for Amazon, explained that the culture of TV is changing and that fans want to be able to watch entire seasons at once. "‘Orphan Black’ is exactly the type of smart, suspenseful TV show that our customers love to binge on," said Beale.
Orphan Black was created by director John Fawcett and stars Maria Doyle Kennedy, Tatiana Maslany, Dylan Bruce, Jordan Gavaris, Kevin Hanchard and Skyler Wexler. Black is written by Graeme Manson, Deadline reported.
