In this episode of Pretty Little Liars, Ali wasted no time in revealing some pretty major secrets to Aria, Spencer, Hannah, and Emily. As time went on, however, it was clear that some of these secrets would affect Aria and Spencer the most. The lead up to the big reveal of our Best Moment may be longer than usual, however, it is well worth the read.
The episode opened with Nole Kahn and the girls in the loft of what seems to be a restaurant that we later find out is called The Mockingbird. After disappearing for a short amount of time, Ali walks through the door surprising the girls.
Spencer, still unsure of her feelings towards Ali, makes it clear of her seemingly love/hate relationship with Ali but also the major question of whether or not she really did end up killing an innocent girl. Ali also reveals that she has the entirety of the night, but if they cannot figure out who “A” is by the end of the night, then she will have to leave forever.
Cici Drake is then seen in an investigation room as she is apparently being considered for the murder of former villain of the show Detective Wilden. We are then brought back to the loft with Ali where we are shown multiple flash backs that date back to that fateful night.
In the flashback, Melissa finally figures out that Ian had been cheating on her with Ian. Ali, being in the next room over, goes to delete certain files and videos when she happens to fall upon a video of Toby and Jenna. After making copies of all of the videos and then disappearing as she usually does, the countdown to see who “A” really is begins.
Still in the flashback, Ali approaches Jenna and tells her that she knows about her and Toby and that she has the video to prove it. She also tells her that if she ever comes back to Rosewood or sends another threat to her, then something bad will happen. However, as Ali is leaving the room, she got another famous text from the anonymous “A” and, at that moment, knew that “A” couldn’t be Jenna.
Back in real time, the police are in a full-fledged investigation searching through Spencer’s house. At this point, no one has seen the girls since the bridal show fundraiser and the girls are considered missing. Another flashback ensues in which Mrs. D forbids Ali from going out even though it was the last weekend of summer, and as we all remember, the weekend that Ali supposedly dies.
Ali brings up the subject of Spencer to her mother saying that she has “that under control now” and her mother angrily replies saying that it doesn’t matter and to “never turn your back on a Hastings”. It didn’t matter, of course, and Ali snuck out anyways receiving a strange phone call from Toby as she was sneaking out to the barn to scare her friends. Although she ignored the phone call, Toby showed up later that night thanking her for helping him make his way out of a bad situation in which Ali then knew Toby was not “A” either.
Before Ali slipped out of the house while her mother was preoccupied on the phone, Ali snuck some of her mother’s sleeping pills in order to sedate the girls in which she would wait. If she received any text messages from “A” while they were asleep then none of them were “A”. Of course none of them proved to be “A”, however, the sedatives did not last long on Spencer.
Before returning to the barn, Ali sent a text message to Ian telling him to meet her at The Kissing Rock that was previously mentioned when Ali wanted to meet Emily. However, on her way to the kissing rock, Ezra pulls up and forces Ali into the car as he is completely angered at the lies that Ali has told.
In real time once more, Spencer’s dad and sister are now in the investigation room as Melissa has returned hearing of Spencer’s relapse into the drug addiction. In the loft, Nole hands Ali a passport and flight ticket and tells her that she has one hour left before she must depart.
At the kissing rock, Ali and Ian get in a fight and Ali threatens to have Ian sent to jail as she blackmails him with videos from his infamous NAT club. She then returns to the barn to a psychotic-looking Spencer and realizes that the sedatives did not work on her due to her drug addiction. She agrees to keep it a secret and tells Spencer to go home and sleep. But where does Spencer really go?
As Ali is returning home, she sees her mother peering through the window and then all gets frantic as her mother witness her being hit on the top of the head with a rock. Even though Ali’s mom sees who did it, the answer to who actually did it is never revealed. We do, however, see Ali’s mom trying to bury Ali while she is still alive. So what’s up with that? Karma comes through as the ends of the episode nears and at the very end, Mrs. D is seen unconscious, or dead, and being buried in the same manner.
After Ali is pulled out of the dirt and brought to the hospital, she flees in fear for her life and then is when psychotic Mona finds her and drives her to the motel where she lives until she recovers. There Mona tells her maybe it would be better if she were dead and gives her the idea to disappear as she finds cover in “A’s” lair.
At the loft now the police have located Spencer’s car to the old warehouse in Pennsylvania, but the girls are elsewhere in the loft and “A” has found them. As the window is broken and they are forced to run up to the roof after being shot at multiple times, our biggest moment is revealed: Ezra appears on the rooftop in a series of confusing events. From a neighboring door, the black-hooded and masked gunman, otherwise known as “A”, emerges and shoots at Ezra getting into a full on fight with him. As Hannah gets a hold of the gun and the girls force the masked person to take the mask off, “A” jumps off of the roof to an adjacent building and disappears.
It is then when we find that Ezra had been shot, even though after watching the episode twice there is no moment present when that could have happened unless a bullet bounced off of the wall, he collapses and seemingly dies in Aria’s arms. So the big question is: Now that we know Ezra was looking for “A”, he cannot be “A” and therefore, who is “A”? Is Ezra Alive? Is Mrs. Dilaurentis alive?
All to be discovered only when Pretty Little Liars returns on June 10th.
