Lady Gaga just released her newest video for her third single off her current album. “G.U.Y” is about being in a powerless position but still being able to accept that power lies within. The techno-like song was produced by Gaga herself and sperstar-DJ, Zedd. After a dismal ending to 2013, Lady Gaga is eager to make 2014 the year of Artpop.

When Lady Gaga announced her third full-length studio album, Little Monsters everywhere eagerly awaited the arrival of Artpop, but they were led on by an announcement made two years before the album actually arrived. When the album dropped, it felt very rushed and unorganized due to mismanagement within Gaga’s team. Her first single, “Applause,” was released a week early due to the song leaking online and was therefore not as impacting as it should have been.

Her album was also released to iTunes Radio a week early to give fans a first listen to the entire album. This was in part to avoid another leak that would impact sales, but alas, sales for the album saw a hit due to this preview. According to Billboard, Artpop only sold 258,000 copies in its first week. Her previous album Born This Way sold over one million copies in its first week, creating a subtle shock as to why Artpop didn’t achieve as much success.

The second single from Artpop was a surprise success for Gaga, given that the song did not fit her original mold for her songs. “Do What U Want” featured R. Kelly in a more R&B song that had a late-90’s vibe to it. It was released in October of 2013 and the song took over radio stations and blasted through speakers everywhere, but of course, something had to go wrong.

The video for “DWUW” was pushed back multiple times and ultimately lead to Gaga having to scrap the video because of disagreements with her team. Though the song itself was critically acclaimed, the absence of a video created negative energy towards the superstar. She closed out 2013 quietly and under the radar as she prepared for the uprising of Artpop in 2014.

In January of this year, MTV reported that Gaga wrote an open letter to fans explaining the delay of the video and what to expect in the upcoming year. She also reassured her fans that Artpop would get its time to shine as she teams up with new management.

Though Lady Gaga had a less-than-perfect album release for Artpop, she assured fans and people everywhere that 2014 would be the year of Artpop. She performed at this year’s SXSW music festival followed by raving reviews of her show. She also released the “G.U.Y” video in March of this year. As if that wasn’t enough buzz for Mother Monster, she is set to begin her next tour, artRave: The ARTPOP Ball Tour, in May of this year as well.

After joining with new management, a new outlook at her career and a thirst to get back on the road, Lady Gaga is ready to take the music world back once again. Her underrated Artpop will definitely be given the spotlight in due time, but until then, watch the video for “G.U.Y” below.
