An attack against the Boko Haram, an Islamic jihadist and terrorist organization, killed dozens of people after a military plane dropped bombs on villages in Nigeria thinking it was a Boko Haram hideout.

A villager said that, “The village was asleep when I heard an aircraft hovering, and within a short interval, aerial bombardment started. The bombs torched homes and killed 20 people, most of them elderly people who could not run fast enough to escape the bombing,” according to CNN.

The Boko Haram retaliated with shooting up the village of Mainok, killing at least 39 people within 24 hours of the military attack.

On Saturday, March 1, 10 civilians were killed after a bomb was detonated near a market. Last week, children were shot and burned in Damaturu. The death toll is over 300 since last month.

According to Rueters, western governments are worried that the Boko Haram terrorist group will link up with al Qaeda-linked cells in other countries in the Sahel region.

The Nigeria Labour Congress has promised to go out to the streets to protest against the massacres happening.
