AMC already redefined television drama, so now the cable network is ready to redefine comedy. Just before its upfront presentation for advertisers Thursday, the network announced its first comedy pilot, plus future projects it hopes will make audiences laugh.
We Hate Paul Revere is the pilot and will start filming later this year, reports The LA Times. It stars Ethan Sandler and Adrian Wenner as brothers trying to live in “the shadow of history in Colonial Boston.”
John Leguizamo is developing a semi-autobiographical project or AMC, while former Daily Show correspondent Wyatt Cenac will play a car salesman in No Money Down. Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg are developing Snow Buddies.
AMC isn’t completely leaving drama behind, though. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the network did order a pilot for Area 51 from The X Files’ Chris Carter and Walking Dead executive producer Gale Anne Hurd. Dave Erickson (Sons of Anarchy) will co-write.
Other dramas in development are the Civil Rights-era Bombingham; Strange Angel from Ridley Scott; and Outer Darkness, which is about exorcism.
Kevin Smith, who already hosts Comic Book Men, will also star in the late-night show Hollywood Babble-On.
AMC needs to get some more drama projects off the ground soon, as Breaking Bad has already ended. Mad Men will be ending in 2015 after its seventh season.
