David Archuleta has returned home from a 2-year Mormon mission in Chile. The American Idol alum announced his return in a YouTube video on Monday.
In the short and simple video, the 23-year-old stands in front of the airport dressed in a suit and tie, reports The Hollywood Reporter.
"Hola, everyone!" he says to his fans in between giggles. "It's Elder Archuleta here. And I'm home. I'm home.”
Archuleta appeared on the seventh season of American Idol in 2007, in which he placed runner up.
He announced in 2012 that he would take a break from making music to pursue a two-year missionary service in Santiago, Chile. He served at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in which he also performed in a Mormon choir.
According to E! Online, Archuleta had previously posted a video to explain to his fans his decision to go to Chile.
“It's a decision everyone knows about, but it's a very personal thing. I wanted to keep it that way, so I hope you guys respect that," he said. "I've been able to bring you guys on this journey so far, but I hope that you guys will respect that this will be more of a personal thing; that I'm trying to focus on something else now, not my career, not trying to do music."
