Recently Angelina Jolie appeared in Entertainment Weekly to promote her upcoming film Malificent. Although many are excited to see her take on the evil role of the villainess Malificent, what was even more revealing in her interview with the magazine, was her confession that her quest for health is not over and she plans on undergoing more cancer-preventative surgery.
In 2013, Jolie underwent preventative surgery and got a double mastectomy, removing both of her breasts after she found out she had a gene making her 87 percent likely to develop breast cancer. After her surgery she reduced her risks to only 5 percent.
Healthy Living reported that Jolie plans on removing her ovaries as well now, since she has about a 50 percent chance of developing the cancer. Her mom unfortunately passed away from ovarian cancer herself when she was just 56 years old.
In her interview with Entertainment Weekly Jolie stated, “There’s still another surgery to have, which I haven’t yet. I’ll, you know, I’ll get advice from all these wonderful people who I’ve been talking to, to get through that next stage.”
Overall, Jolie’s bravery and openness about her mastectomy and her future surgery has been inspiring women and men all over the world. Jolie has also said that the amount of love and support she has received from countless people has been extremely touching and heartwarming and she will continue to be open about her health.
