NFL Cornerback Antonio Cromartie has been released by the New York Jets.
ESPN reports that by releasing Cromartie the Jets are saving $9.5 million, which they can now use to seek a big-name free agent cornerback. Reportedly, the Jets have already been in contact with Alterraun Verner, who plays for the Tennessee Titans. Even though he appeared in this year's Pro Bowl, Cromartie had a bad season for the Jets last year. Yet, Jets head coach Rex Ryan praises Cromartie for being a hard worker and one the best players he has ever coached. Ryan stated, "He was willing to contribute wherever the team needed him to win games, be it defense, special teams or offense."
USA Today discloses how Cromartie posted a message on Twitter saying he was thankful to the Jets for all they have done for him.
I would also like to give a big up to The Jets Fan base. Thank you for all the support thru my 4 yr career with you. Thank you again.

However, Cromartie's departure might not be the only one made by the Jets. Quarterback Mark Sanchez and wide reciever Santonio Holmes will also be let go due to their high salaries.
