Frasier alum Bebe Neuwirth has been cast in the pilot of the CBS political drama Madam Secretary.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the show will focus on a maverick female secretary of state who grapples with professional and personal issues. Tea Leoni has been cast as the lead. The show was created and written by Joan of Arcadia’s Barbara Hall.

BroadwayWorld reports that Neuwirth is joining a cast already composed of Tim Daly, Geoffrey Arend and Patina Miller. Neuwirth will be play the character of Nadine, a chief of staff who works with Leoni’s character.

Neuwirth’s previous TV credits include Blue Bloods, The Good Wife, Bored to Death, Law & Order and Cheers.

Neuwirth is also a seasoned Broadway star, winning Tony awards for her performances in Chicago and Sweet Charity. Other recent stage credits for Neuwirth include The Addams Family, Fosse and A Chorus Line.

Creator Hall has recently been involved in writing for Homeland and the miniseries Marry Me.
