The nephew of rapper and reality TV star Raymond “Benzino” Scott, claims that he shot his uncle out of self-defense when he fired shots into his SUV during a funeral procession.

Gai Scott, 36, pleaded not guilty to a charge of armed assault with intent to murder, at the Plymouth District Court on Monday, reports The Boston Herald.

“When the dust settles with respect to this case, it's going to be abundantly clear that Mr. Scott, a licensed gun owner, was acting in self-defense and in defense of his family,” Scott’s attorney, Jon Ciraulo said.

Scott allegedly pulled up in his Bentley beside Benzino’s red dodge SUV while they were headed to a Plymouth church during Benzino’s mother’s funeral procession. Scott opened fire and Benzino was shot twice. He was taken to a hospital nearby with no serious injuries, and was released on Monday, reports Daily Mail.

Benzino, who is best known for creating The Source magazine and his role on the reality TV show “Love and Hip-Hop: Atlanta”, said that he believes that the hand of his mother saved him.

“Feel much better. God is real. My mother touched me I'm certain,” he wrote on Instagram.
