CBS News correspondent Bill Whitaker is joining the cast of the popular news magazine show, 60 Minutes.
According to CBS, Jeff Fager, the executive producer of 60 Minutes and the chairman of CBS News, "Bill Whitaker is one of the great veterans of CBS News. He has had a distinguished career covering just about every kind of story all over the world. Bill is a natural fit at 60 Minutes and it's exciting that he has agreed to join us."
Whitaker has been with CBS since 1984. He will begin with the staff of 60 Minutes next Fall. Whitaker will join Scott Pelley, Steve Kroft, Lesley Stahl, Bob Simon and Lara Logan as regular correspondents, according to the Associated Press.
Whitaker is an Emmy award winner. He has also worked for Sunday Morning and has covered such celebrities as Barbra Streisand, Norman Lear, and Gladys Knight. Whitaker was born in Philadelphia. Whitaker also attended the Master of Journalism program at the University of California, Berkeley. In 1997, he was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from Hobart and William Smith Colleges.
