The Brooklyn Nets will sign center Jason Collins to a new 10-day contract since the first with the team is set to expire on Tuesday.
According to The Associated Press, Collins signed his first deal with the Nets on Feb. 23. This made him the NBA's first openly gay player.
Collins will either remain with the Nets or be let go after his second contract expires since teams can only sign a player to two 10-day contracts per season, according to USA Today. He has familiarity with the Nets, as he spent the first six seasons with the New Jersey Nets and was teammates with head coach Jason Kidd.
Collins has played 34 minutes in four games so far with the Nets, and he has had four points, four rebounds and three steals.
Collins left New Jersey in 2008 and signed with the Memphis Grizzlies. He then played for the Minnesota Timberwolves before spending three seasons with the Atlanta Hawks. He also played for the Boston Celtics and Washington Wizards for a season apiece.
