Dave Annable, who starred on the ABC series Brothers & Sisters, has been cast in Fox’s Red Band Society pilot. He will join Octavia Spencer in the Steven Spielberg-produced project.
Annable has been cast to play Dr. William McAndrew, a pediatric oncologist and surgeon, notes TheWrap. The doctor has a hard time not getting attached to his patients.
The actor is an ABC veteran and the project does have a connection to the network. Although it will air on Fox, it is a ABC TV Studios production, along with Spielberg’s Amblin Television. As Variety notes, Annable also appeared in ABC’s short-lived 666 Park Ave.
Red Band Society’s executive producers include Margaret Nagle, Spielberg, Justin Falvey, Darryl Frank and Sergio Aguero. It is based on the Spanish series Polseres Vermelles, which focused on teens in a hospital who become friends.
Fox ordered the project in January, giving it a unique “series prototype” order. That means that in addition to the pilot, it has ordered further scripts to be written.
Spencer was cast last month as a no-nonsense nurse. She became available after NBC killed its planned Murder She Wrote reboot.
