The Buffalo Bills beefed up their linebacker corps by signing inside linebacker Brandon Spikes to a one-year contract worth $3.25 million.
It could go up to $3.5 million with incentives though as reported by ESPN. Spikes was signed from the Bills' divisional rival, the New England Patriots.
For the Patriots, Spikes registered 86 tackles and an interception in the 2013 season. He played four seasons with the Patriots after getting taken by them in the second round of the 2010 draft.
Spikes has struggled in passing down situations, prompting Patriots head coach Bill Belichick to keep him off the field during such situations. He is looking to prove that he can be a three-down linebacker and sign a long-term deal.
Spikes' signing is expected to move Kiko Alonso to the outside linebacker position. Alonso finished second in the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year voting in the 2013 season.
According to NFL, the Bills also signed running back Anthony Dixon, linebacker Keith Rivers and cornerback Corey Graham.
