Oscar nominee Barkhad Abdi, who appeared alongside Tom Hanks in Captain Phillips has reportedly been struggling financially.

According to the New Yorker, newcomer Abdi was paid only $65,000 for the film and by the time the Academy Awards rolled around, he didn't have enough money for his own suit, so he had to borrow some, as he is surviving on a per diem for the moment.

Despite the struggles for the former limo driver and mobile phone salesman, he managed to win a BAFTA award and get nominations for a Golden Globe, SAG award and Oscar for a film that made $218 million at the box office.

People reports that he was so low on money that he requested accommodations at a hotel that was close to the Los Angeles airport, since he had a friend living nearby who could help him get around.

His struggles might not last too long as The Hollywood Reporter notes that he is talks to star in the film The Place That Hits the Sun as South African runner Willie Mtolo.
