Singers Mariah Carey, Fergie, and actress Brenda Song are celebrating their birthdays today.
Mariah Carey, 44
Singer, songwriter, record producer, and actress Mariah Carey turns 44 today. Carey released her self-titled Debut album in 1990. The song quickly became a success, going multi-platinum, and containing four No. 1 singles, "Vision of Love," "Love Takes Time," "Someday," and "I Don't Wanna Cry." Her albums that followed, Emotions (1991), Music Box (1993), and Merry Christmas (1994), all did very well.
Carey's album Daydream (1995), featured the hit single "One Sweet Day" which featured Boyz II Men, and stayed at No. 1 on the Billboard 100 for 16 consecutive weeks, making it the longest running number-one song in U.S. history. She transitioned to hip-hop music with her album Butterfly (1997). Carey made her film debut in 2001's Glitter. The film did poorly, and lead to a decline in her music career.
Carey made a comeback in 2005 with her album, The Emancipation of Mimi. The single, "We Belong Together," was named Song of the Decade by Billboard. She received the Breakthrough Performance Role at the Palm Springs International Film Festival for her role in Precious (2009).
Throughout her career, Carey has sold over 200 million records worldwide, making her the best selling female artist in the U.S. She has won five Grammy Awards, 17 World Music Awards, 11 American Music Awards, and 31 Billboard Music Awards.
Carey is working on a new album. She married Nick Cannon in 2008, and have twins.
Brenda Song, 26
Actress, singer, producer, and model Brenda Song turns 26 today. Song started out as a child fashion model. She started her acting career on television in shows like Fudge and 100 Deeds for Eddie McDowd. She won a Young Artist Award for her role in the Disney television film The Ultimate Christmas Present.
Song made her big screen debut in Santa with Muscles, and has starred in films including Like Mike, A Cinderella Story, College Road Trip, and The Social Network. She is also popular on the Disney Channel, staring in television films like Get a Clue, Stuck in the Suburbs, Wendy Wu: Homecoming Warrior, and The Suite Life Movie.
Song also had recurring roles on Disney television series including Phil of the Future, Suite Life of Zack and Cody, and Suite Life on Deck. She also starred on television shows on other networks, like ABC's Scandal, and FOX's New Girl.
Song most recently starred on FOX's comedy Dads.
Fergie, 39
Singer, songwriter, designer, and actress Fergie turns 39 today. Born Stacy Ann Ferguson, Fergie studied dance. She voiced the role of Sally in two television Charlie Brown Movies, and also for The Charlie Brown and Snoopy Show. She starred in Kids Incorporated from 1984-89.
She became a member of Wild Orchid, a female singing group. In 1994, they signed with RCA Records. They released their self-titled debut album in September of that year, and it reached No. 1 in the U.S. Their second album was a commercial failure, and the label refused to release their third despite it already being completed. Fergie left Wild Orchid due to the bands image, as well as her personal drug problems.
In 2003, Fergie collaborated with The Black Eyed Peas for their Elephunk album. Their next album, Monkey Business, was released in 2005, and reached No. 2 on the Billboard 200. They earned a Grammy Award for their song "Don't Phunk with My Heart.
Fergie released her debut solo album, The Dutchess, in 2006. The singles "London Bridge," "Fergalicious," "Glamorous," "Clumsy," "Big Girls Don't Cry," and "Finally," all did very well on the Billboard charts.
Fergie returned with The Black Eyed Peas for their The E.N.D. album in 2009, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Their single "Boom Boom Pow" reached No. 1 on the Billboard 100 chart, their first time reaching that feat. Their second single, "I Gotta Feeling," also reached No. 1, and stayed at the top for 14 consecutive weeks. They followed up with their album, The Beginning, in 2010, which contained the singles "The Time (Dirty Bit)," and "Just Can't Get Enough."
Fergie is currently working on her second solo studio album. She is married to actor Josh Duhamel, and have a son named Axl Jack Duhamel. She legally changed her name to Fergie Duhamel.
