Star Trek actor Chris Pine was arrested early Wednesday morning for drunk driving in Methven, New Zealand.
The actor was pulled over by police for a routine stop and was found to be driving with a blood-alcohol limit exceeding the 0.8 percent legal limit, reports The Associated Press. Pine will have to appear in court next Monday for the charge.
The 33-year-old actor had been shooting his latest film Z for Zachariah in New Zealand's Banks Peninsula.
He was spotted the night before drinking with his girlfriend, Iris Bjork Johannesdottir, as they celebrated wrapping on filming. The Blue Pub's manager Casey Crawford spoke with the Christchurch newspaper The Press and noted that though Pine was drinking during his time at the bar, he seemed to be fine when he left a couple hours after midnight.
Crawford noted that Pine was friendly to those who wanted a picture, but "He looked like he just wanted to spend time with his partner."
Though Pine has not commented publicly on the DUI charge, TVNZ says that a Christchurch acquaintance noted that the actor would "front up" to the charge. The actor has since left New Zealand for Sydney, Australia.
One resident of Christchurch said that the drunk driving charges and resulting media coverage is unfortunate as Pine is a "lovely, very down to earth" and "charming" person.
