Tuesday marked the release of the highly anticipated show-based video game “South Park: The Stick of Truth” by original creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone in conjunction with Ubisoft and Obsidian Entertainment.
The New York Times reports that the role playing adventure was first announced in June 2012 for a March 2013 release, but was delayed for a year due to the original publisher THQ going under among other complications. Parker and Stone created the game concept after unsatisfactory results from past licensed South Park games, deciding this time around to create one on their own.
Parker commented to New York Times, “We don’t want anyone making a ‘South Park’ thing. We have to do ‘South Park’ ourselves, all the time.”
According to Business Wire, the player starts out as “the new friend” that must save the town from various threats by joining forces with the main cast of kids Stan, Kyle, Cartman, and Kenny. The game will provide a variety of iconic elements of the show to create the ultimate South Park experience, including fighting Underpants Gnomes and attending school at South Park Elementary.
The game is available now on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Windows PC.
