Forward Danny Granger signed with the Los Angeles Clippers on Friday. Terms and length of the deal weren’t disclosed.
Granger was waived on Wednesday after the Philadelphia 76ers bought out his contract. He cleared waivers on Friday and hopes to play with the Clippers on Saturday. There were numerous teams that were interested in Granger. The San Antonio Spurs, Houston Rockets, Miami Heat, and Dallas Mavericks all tried to get Granger, who went with the Clippers because they offered him the best opportunity to play for a team that is a contender, according to ESPN. Granger is the Clippers second addition this week. They signed forward Glenn Davis on Monday.
"I just bring another dynamic," Granger told the Clippers website. "I'm a bigger small forward and I can play the 4 as well. I can shoot the ball and when you add that to the type of offense that the Clippers play -- kind of up tempo, shoot a lot of the 3s, space the court -- it's the type of offense I would thrive in."
Granger had played for the Indiana Pacers for his entire NBA career of nine years. Last week he was traded to the 76ers. In 2009 he became an All-Star and has led the Pacers in scoring for five straight years. Last year he played in just five games due to a knee injury, and missed almost two months of this season due to a strained left calf. In 29 games this season he is averaging 8.3 points and 3.6 rebounds, according to the Associated Press.
The addition of Granger and Davis is good for the Clippers as they look to add depth to their team. It will be interesting to see how Granger and Davis do with the Clippers.
