The owner of the Detroit Lions, William Clay Ford passed away Sunday morning at the age of 88. Ford is not only well known in the world of professional football but in the automobile world as well. Ford is the grandson of automobile icon Henry Ford and is worth an estimated $1.35 billion.
According to the usatoday due to his fragile state of health Ford was not always physically present around the team, but he put great trust and faith in the staff he chose to run the Lions.
Ford bought the Lions in 1963 for a grand total of $4.5 million and has run the team ever since. Since Ford has been in control of the team, the Lions have managed to win only one playoff game, that win came against the Dallas Cowboys.
According to forbes Ford’s son Bill Ford Jr., spoke of his late Father saying, “My dad was a great business leader and humanitarian who dedicated his life to the company and community.”
